1. Don't Memorize Answers

Examiners are trained to spot memorized answers and they will penalize you for them. Instead of memorizing, learn vocabulary relevant to common topics.

2. Uses a Range of Linking Words

Simple linking words like "and", "but", and "also" are fine, but to get a high score, you need to use more sophisticated connectives such as however, furthermore, consequently, and on the other hand.

3. Don't Worry About Your Accent

Everyone has an accent. As long as you can be understood, your accent is not a problem. Focus on clear pronunciation and intonation instead.

4. Extend Your Answers

Don't just say "Yes" or "No". Always expand on your answer with reasons and examples.

  • Examiner: "Do you like your hometown?"
  • Bad Answer: "Yes."
  • Good Answer: "Yes, definitely. I love my hometown because it's very peaceful and the people are incredibly friendly. Also, the food there is amazing."

5. Be Confident

Smile, make eye contact, and try to speak naturally. Confidence can mask minor grammar mistakes and makes you sound more fluent.
